Conformance status

We target WCAG 2.1 Level AA. As of 5 September 2026 this site is partially conformant: it passes the automated and keyboard testing we run, but that testing does not cover every criterion in the standard. Below is exactly what we checked and what we did not.

How we tested

On 5 September 2026 we ran axe-core 4.10.2 against the seventeen main site pages in both languages — 34 page renders, using the WCAG 2.1 A and AA rulesets, in desktop Chromium at 1280 × 900. Result: zero violations.

The same day we walked those 34 renders with the keyboard, by script: 1,259 focus stops. On every page the first Tab lands on the skip link, focus order follows document order, and every stop shows a visible focus indicator.

The August 2026 audit this page grew out of found and fixed six real problems, listed here because they were live: the navigation bar was white text on a cream background on all four legal pages (unreadable); six calculator checkboxes had no accessible name; the date-premium picker was <span>s with a click handler, unusable by keyboard; the “+” and “−” buttons announced in English on the Spanish page; several pills and section headings fell below minimum contrast; and the butterfly animation looped with no way to stop it.

What works today

  • Skip-to-content link as the first focusable element on all 34 renders we walked
  • Semantic HTML, exactly one <h1> per page, and a declared language on each
  • Navigation, mobile menu, forms and the quote calculator all operable by keyboard, checked by the walk described above
  • Visible focus indicators at all 1,259 focus stops of that walk, including on pills whose real control is visually hidden
  • No image is left without an alt attribute: we counted 84 images per language, 41 carrying a description and 43 marked decorative
  • When a form rejects a field, that field is marked with aria-invalid and points at its own error message, rather than only turning red
  • The butterfly animation stops on its own if your system asks for reduced motion
  • The homepage carousel has pause, previous and next controls

Known limitations

Automated testing catches roughly a third of the WCAG criteria. Passing it does not mean the site is fully accessible, and we are not going to claim otherwise. We have not yet checked:

  • Testing with real screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver) by people who use them daily. This has not been done.
  • Whether those error announcements are read out the way we intend. The markup is in place; no screen reader has read it yet
  • Touch use on mobile with a screen reader running. This has not been done — it needs a person with a phone
  • A keyboard walkthrough driven by a person. The one above is a script, and a script cannot tell you whether the order makes sense
  • Zoom to 200% and 400%, and content reflow on small screens
  • Criteria no tool can judge: whether each link makes sense out of context, whether reading order follows visual order, whether the language is plain enough
  • The client portal (portal.monarchcelebrations.com) — this statement covers the public site, not the portal

There has also been no third-party audit, and there is no VPAT. When any of that changes, we will update this page and its date.
